Writer’s Block: Sometimes It’s Just a Tired Brain

As I ready myself for the upcoming Norwegian Christmas, which they celebrate on the 24th. This is great for me, as I get two Christmas dinners. But I have been having a struggle for a while, procrastination is one word for it, another is phrase we use is writers block.

Writer’s block is dramatic, mysterious, and often treated like a spiritual crisis. But more often than not, it’s simply fatigue. Your brain is overloaded, overwhelmed, or in need of a biscuit.

Take a break. Go for a walk. Wash dishes. Shower. Stare at pigeons, cats or that bloody fox digging up the garden again. Do something mindless and let your subconscious untangle the knots.

When you return, the words often reappear as if they weren’t throwing a tantrum an hour ago.

Writer’s block isn’t a moral failing. It’s a signal. Rest is part of the process. Time to take some time off for Christmas…
