Audiobook released – Project Radiant
The journey of releasing the audiobook for Project Radiant: Red Tape & Ruin: Book 1 has been surprisingly hard.
I used to think that writing the book was the hard part, but then once you’ve finished the manuscript, there are the admin tasks that need to be completed to get the book on a platform where people can hopefully buy it and, more importantly, read it.
I will do another post on all the parts of what to do when you’ve completed your book, but here I am going to talk about the release of the Audiobook which was brilliantly narrated by Clare Saxby.
You can purchase the Audiobook of Project Radiant here on Amazon, but it will be available on other audiobook distributors in due course through authorsrepublic.
Now to the challenges I had with the audiobook. I had at first hoped to release the audiobook around the same time as the physical copies, however this did not go to plan, as the original narrator (if I can call them that…) I chose used text-to-speech AI, which is against the T&Cs of ACX and I did not want.
The irony of a book about the dangers of AI and transparency being narrated by AI without my knowledge is not lost on me at all. I have poor hearing, which is no excuse, but the book sounded like a human to me and it was only in the final ACX review that it came out that it was AI. I lost £300, the narrator got barred from ACX and I had to start the journey again.
This time, with a much more rigorous audition process, which included a video call to confirm they were human, they looked like their photo on the platform and discussed the book.
I’m glad I did. Clare is an excellent narrator and really brought the characters to life. I love the narration, and I hope you will give it a chance and give it a listen. You can also use Whispersync for Voice to sync to the kindle edition.
Sam Altman claims AI intelligence will soon be “too cheap to meter.” The reality on the ground? Token and API costs are skyrocketing.
Want a front-row seat to where this collision course ends?
I’m looking for a select group of early readers to join the ARC team for Lifetime Subscription (Book 2 in the Red Tape & Ruin thriller series). This book takes a dark, razor-sharp look at the predatory subscription culture we live in and how the exploding cost of AI is about to change everything.
Read it first, review it early, and help launch the story.
