We are all social, in the end

Interview with Scout leader and Youtuber @Bigmaninthewoods

In 2023, I began writing what would become It’s Only an Hour a Week. Initially, I saw it as a fun collection of amusing Scouting stories. However, as I wrote, the focus shifted, it became a book about why I volunteer and the vital role adult volunteers play in Scouting. Whether on the front line or behind the scenes, every contribution makes a difference in shaping young lives.

So, I started in and around the summer of 2022, published an article in Jan 2023 to keep me honest. I promptly damaged my shoulders in Feb 2023 and didn’t write anything for 6 months. But having survived all that in September 2024 I finally released the book on Amazon, Kindle and Kindle Unlimited. It is a passion project for me as I really care about Scouting and being able to help young people be their best in Scouts. When I released the book I reached out to a couple of Scouters with a social media following to mention that this book was now available. The Scouting Stuff Podcast based in Canada and Bigmaninthewoods based in the UK.

I interviewed with both of them, talking about volunteering, Scouts in general and of course the book.
