About Me

Hi, I’m James B. Wood.

I’m a technologist, a storyteller, and a lifelong Scout. Over the past 25+ years, I’ve built my career in IT and software development, working across product operations, digital transformation, and solution delivery. Currently, I lead work in Product Operations , where I focus on building systems that are reliable, automated, and scalable. I love helping teams work better together, solving complex problems, and making technology work for the people who use it.

But that’s only part of the story.

I’m also an author. Writing has been a creative outlet for me for many years, and it’s a way to explore stories, ideas, and experiences that matter. My books range from whimsical tales for young readers to memoirs and guides inspired by family life, travel, and volunteering:

  • It’s Only an Hour a Week — reflections and advice on volunteering in the Scouting movement
  • Tales from the Halfdeck — maritime-inspired stories and adventures
  • Ascot to Argelès: Drive on the Right, with Kids in Tow… — a family road-trip memoir across Europe
  • Dinosaurs, Elves and Imps — a playful collection of imaginative stories

You can explore my books on Amazon or dive deeper into my writing journey here on this site.

Scouting has been a huge part of my life for over 20 years. It’s taught me the value of mentorship, teamwork, and giving back to the community. Many of the lessons I’ve learned as a Scout have shaped the way I lead teams, approach challenges, and think creatively—both in technology and in writing.

At heart, I’m fascinated by the intersection of creativity and technology. Whether I’m streamlining a product workflow, mentoring a team, or crafting a story, I’m motivated by problem-solving, curiosity, and making a positive impact.

Thanks for stopping by, feel free to explore my books, read about my work, or follow along with my latest adventures.

Ultimately, I’m a father of three, have a few cats and a husband to a very understanding wife.
